Enchanted, mysterious, and historical — Colombia is the only country in South America with both the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts. It has golden beaches, Pre-Colombian artefacts, burial sites, eco-tourism, the Amazon River, the most biodiversity in the world, not to mention the nicest people in the world as well. In “happiness surveys”, Colombia always comes in as the “happiest country in the world”, yet so few have visited this paradise.
This is one country where it is generally safer to teach in the cities than in the countryside, parts of which are under the control of paramilitaries. However, Colombia’s economy has recovered somewhat despite the armed conflict between the government and rebels. As a result, the ESL infrastructure of the country is expanding which is opening up many new opportunities for ESL teachers.
